4 Weekend or Day Trips from Jervis Bay

Although we can’t imagine why you’d ever want to leave the paradise that is Jervis Bay, we do admit that Australia has some pretty incredible places to visit. From the dramatic red centre of the Outback to the blissful Whitsundays to Sydney’s iconic opera house. Whether you’re a Jervis Bay resident or a traveller just passing through, we hope you will take advantage of all that this coastal region has to offer, especially one of our extremely popular eco tours. But after your dolphin cruise or whale watching adventure, go ahead and branch out for a day or two. There are many great spots all within a short driving distance. Here are 3 of our top recommendations for fantastic day trips out of Jervis Bay.

A Quick Trip Down the Unspoilt Coast

Just over two hours’ drive south of Jervis Bay is the inland country town of Moruya, located on the Moruya River. This is an older town with a historic (yet revived) city centre that gives Moruya a distinct charm. Situated slightly inland, Moruya is a quick drive to the coast where you can enjoy great surfing, fishing, and more on crowd-free beaches. Golf enthusiasts will enjoy the course and driving range in the area and shoppers will be very pleased with the regular country markets and farmers markets where a wide variety of goods are sold. Looking for a bit more of an adrenaline rush? Moruya is home to skydiving opportunities and thrilling scenic seaplane flights.

A Mountain Getaway

Looking to escape to higher ground for a weekend? The Blue Mountains are the ideal choice for your Jervis Bay day trip. A very doable 3.5 hour drive will bring you to this spectacular area west of Sydney. You won’t run out of activities here, as this is a major spot for bushwalking, day spas, shopping, sightseeing, dining, and, of course, endless outdoor exploration. The scenic views are unparalleled along the Blue Mountains, and landscape photographers will be anxious to catch a shot of the famous sandstone pillars known as Three Sisters.

Head West for History

If you’re keen for some culture, why not check out Australia’s capital city of Canberra? Just around 3 hours from Jervis Bay, you’ll find many museums and galleries to whet your artistic, political, and historical appetites. The National Museum of Australia is located in Canberra, as well as the National Gallery, Parliament House, and the National Film and Sound Archive. A day or weekend of learning and urban exploration can be had in Canberra, and if you are travelling with kids, you’ll want to be sure not to miss the interactive Questacon, The National Science and Technology Centre.

Why Not Stay and Play?

Day trips are great, but there is an endless supply of fun and excitement to be had right here in Jervis Bay itself. Why not stay and play for the weekend? We have eco cruises departing 365 days per year, certain to bring you and your family on a memorable marine adventure. You might also try a new Jervis Bay restaurant, discover something unique on a rainy day, or visit one of the area’s countless other attractions.

We look forward to seeing you in the region soon!
