Looking for something a little different on your next visit to Jervis Bay? You could hop aboard our famous dolphin cruise or join us on a whale watching tour, but perhaps you’re after a different type of experience. Or maybe you’ve already come with us on our most popular eco-cruises and you’re itching to try something new. The South Coast Passage is a distinctive journey, and it might be the perfect choice for your Jervis bay holiday activity.
The Details
This cruise is one of our favourites, and we offer it year-round, weather permitting. Your 3 hour experience is a bit longer than some of our other options, giving you the opportunity to truly savour your time out on the water. You have the option to depart from Huskisson or Curragong, with a courtesy bus that will ferry you in between the locations before or after your cruise.
The South Coast Passage is very unique, particularly because you travel on a different type of vessel than our other cruises. Here, you’ll ride in a rigid inflatable boat, which keeps you closer to the water. The boat takes you on a glorious route, past towering sea cliffs, impressive caves, and along the most incredible spots in Jervis Bay. You’ll pass a remote seal colony, giving you a chance to see our adorable local Australian fur seals, and you are also likely to see dolphins, whales, sea birds, and other species while on your cruise. Every trip is different, based on the wildlife spotted, and our team works hard to give you the very best experience possible.
What’s a Rigid Inflatable Boat?
Like the more traditional-looking vessels used on our other eco cruises, a rigid inflatable boat has a rigid hull—or main structure of the boat. This creates durability and strength. But the gunwale (top edge along the boat’s sides) is composed of flexible rubber tubing. This gives the vessel the look of a raft-boat cross. These boats are incredibly safe. The inflatable parts provide extra stability as well as allowing the boat to manoeuvre more tightly. This is why we choose this type of vessel for the South Coast Passage. Without it, it would be impossible to navigate so closely through the coastal sea cliffs. Sailing on the rigid inflatable boat is great fun. You experience the pleasant buoyancy of the vessel and are set closer to the water, meaning every wildlife sighting is that much more of a thrill!
Emphasis on Gorgeous
Though all of our eco cruises take guests out on the stunning Jervis Bay, it is the South Coast Passage which we feel most emphasises this area’s gorgeous scenery. Our coastal cliffs and ancient sea caves are amazing wonders of nature, and on this tour, you get as close to them as possible. Only the South Coast Passage allows you the special access to marvel at and truly appreciate the immense size of the cliffs. There is also great variety on this tour. You never know precisely what wildlife you will see, so it’s always a unique adventure out on the water.
