Where to Watch the Sunset in Jervis Bay

Jervis Bay is one of those places that looks incredible at any time of day. But as the afternoon light softens and the sky starts to change colour, something special happens out on the water. If you are planning a trip to the South Coast and wondering where to catch the sunset, we might be a little biased, but we think the best seat in the house is on board one of our sunset cruises.
Here is everything you need to know.

Watch the Sunset from the Water

There is something about watching a Jervis Bay sunset from the water that you simply cannot get from the shore. As the sky turns gold and the light dances across the bay, you are right in the middle of it all. No car parks, no crowds, just you, the water, and one of the most beautiful coastlines in New South Wales.
At Jervis Bay Wild, we run two sunset cruise options from Huskisson, and they offer quite different experiences depending on what you are after.

Sundowner Cruise

If you are looking for something relaxed and close to nature, the Sundowner Cruise is for you. This 2 hour cruise takes you along the tranquil waters of Currambene Creek on board our pontoon boat, winding through the Australian bush as the sun goes down. Keep an eye out for white-bellied sea eagles, kingfishers, kookaburras, pelicans, and the occasional kangaroo watching curiously from the bank. BYO drinks and nibbles and simply enjoy the ride. It runs November through to May, departing from Huskisson Wharf.

Sundowners Bay Cruise

For something a little more expansive, the Sundowners Bay Cruise takes you out onto Jervis Bay itself for a 3 hour evening on the water. Watch the sun set over the bay, keep an eye out for our resident bottlenose dolphins, and enjoy some nibbles on board. A cheese plate or prawns and oysters are available to purchase, or you are welcome to bring your own. This one runs on Saturdays from November to May, departing from Fishermens Wharf in Huskisson.

Or Stay Ashore at Fishermens Wharf

Not quite ready to get on the water? Our very own Fishermens Wharf cafe and restaurant sits right on the Huskisson Wharf with some of the finest waterfront views in Jervis Bay. Open Friday and Saturday nights during the warmer months, it is a great spot to settle in with a drink and watch the evening light change over the bay. With an emphasis on fresh local seafood and a relaxed atmosphere, it makes a lovely start or end to any day in Huskisson. And if you do decide to book a sunset cruise while you are there, you are already in exactly the right place.

The Perfect Autumn Evening

March is actually a wonderful time to experience a Jervis Bay sunset cruise. The summer crowds have eased, the water is still warm, and the autumn light is soft and golden in a way that makes everything look a little more beautiful. Whether you are visiting for a weekend from Sydney or Canberra, or you are a local looking for a great night out, a sunset cruise is one of those experiences that stays with you.
Both cruises require you to collect your boarding pass 30 minutes prior to departure from Fishermens Wharf in Huskisson. Spots do book out, so we recommend securing yours online ahead of time. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions. We would love to have you on board.
