How to Spend a Rainy Day in Jervis Bay

Jervis Bay is known for its stunning beaches, mild temperatures and generally sunny climate. But like anywhere, we occasionally get a bit of rain. In an area bursting with outdoor recreation opportunities, will the rain ruin your holiday plans?

We say no. Although Jervis Bay is a nature lover’s paradise, there is plenty of fun to be had indoors if you happen to be in the area when the sky is grey. Here is a great list of things for you to do on a rainy day in Jervis Bay!

Visit A Museum

Lovers of aviation will enjoy the Fleet Air Arm Museum. Perfect for both adults and children, there are exhibits, aircraft, and other aviation relics in the large museum space and air hangar. From the verandah, you can also grab a glimpse of the HMAS Albatross.

Jervis Bay Maritime Museum is a great way to learn more about the area’s maritime history and aboriginal culture. There are also temporary exhibits, so there is always something new to discover at the museum. If you do happen to be there on a sunny day, the outdoor markets occur on the first Saturday of every month, with crafts, local produce, and more.

Movie Time

For the perfect rainy-day activity, head to Huskisson Pictures and take in a film. This cinema was built in 1913, and its unique vintage look, paired with some great films, makes this a wonderful place to spend an afternoon.

Another option is the Roxy Cinema in Nowra. Housed in a heritage-listed building, the Roxy has been owned and run since 1935 by a local family. The building may be retro, but the cinema uses the latest digital technology and the seats are super comfy!

Eat and Drink

The NSW South Coast is blessed with a food and wine culture to rival anywhere in the world. Local food and wine tours are a great way to spend a rainy day in Jervis Bay. You’ll keep mostly dry on your transportation, and will enjoy tasting the region’s most delicious wines and regional specialities.

There are also a number of impressive restaurants in Huskisson and plenty of cafes serving great coffee and tasty breakfasts and lunches.

PAMPER YOURSELF

One of the finest ways to spend a rainy day has to be lying in the lap of luxury. A day spent at a spa just might be the perfect addition to your holiday. Luscious Boutique Skin Spa in Nowra offers a range of luxury spa treatments including massages, facials, manicures, pedicures, body treatments and much more. Royal Lotus Thai & Remedial Massage also comes highly recommended. Sit back, relax, and enjoy a heavenly pampering. You deserve it.

Swim Indoors

Bay & Basin Leisure Centre is a rainy day favourite for local families. Featuring a 25m lap pool, a leisure pool with beach entry, a toddler pool (all heated), a waterslide, a fully-equipped gym, a cafe and a creche you can easily spend a whole day here. Check Bay & Basin Leisure Centre’s Facebook page for the latest information regarding opening hours, class timetables and number restrictions.
