A Little Bit of History
Paperbark Camp opened in 1999, long before luxury camping or glamping became “a thing.” Owners, Jeremy and Irena, were inspired by the luxury safari tents they encountered on their travels in Africa and could see the same style of accommodation working well back home in Australia. It wasn’t easy to find the right location, satisfy council and government requirements and give up a comfortable life in Sydney, but with perseverance, hard-work and a gut feeling, Jeremy and Irena succeeded in creating their luxury bush retreat. The Tents
There are 13 safari tents at Paperbark Camp and three levels of luxury – Original Safari, Deluxe Safari and King Deluxe Safari. All tents include private en-suite, full insect screening, wrap around decking with outdoor furniture, solar-powered lighting and luxury linen. As Paperbark Camp holds an Advanced Eco Accreditation, there is no television, power points, fridge, air conditioning or heating. However, you will be able to charge your devices in The Gunyah Restaurant, and hot flasks are delivered each morning for your morning cuppa! The Restaurant
Just as the kitchen is the heart of the family home, The Gunyah Restaurant is the heart of Paperbark Camp. Serving as a dining room, communal lounge and reception area, guests are free to come and go as they please. Make yourself a hot drink, access WiFi, or play a game of chess while you wait for your device to charge! Breakfasts here are legendary and a candlelit evening meal is Jervis Bay must-do. If you’re not lucky enough to be staying at the camp, The Gunyah is open to outside guests but make sure you book well in advance.
