How Will We Keep Jervis Bay Beautiful?

The Jervis Bay area is home to thousands of species of flora and fauna and is one of the most beautiful parts of New South Wales, rich in historical and cultural significance. Living near and working in the bay every day, our team at Jervis Bay Wild is very aware of our role as stewards of the bay. We know it is our responsibility (alongside other locals and visitors) to protect Jervis Bay in every way possible and to assist in conservation and preservation of this special region.

But how do we do this?

Our Focus on Ecotourism

At Jervis Bay Wild, we have daily eco tours cruising the bay waters. Many other boats are found throughout the bay as well Left unchecked, these vessels and their activity, as well as human use, could have a substantial negative impact on the bay, affecting habitats, crowding the bay, and much more. Because of this, Jervis Bay Wild places major emphasis on eco-friendly operations. We strive to continually use the bay carefully, making every effort to promote and follow our strict environmentally-supportive practices. Our commitment to this has earned us recognition as an official eco-certified organisation with advanced ecotourism status.

Environmental Education

In addition to our focus on environmental sustainability in Jervis Bay, we are dedicated to marine life protection. In our interactions with wildlife populations in our area, we always follow best practices, maintaining the proper distance and ensuring we are respectful guests within the animals’ habitat. Our local species are precious to us, and we make every effort to keep them thriving and enjoying their natural environment.

On every eco cruise with us, you’ll be sure to hear about our commitment to protecting and preserving the creatures and vegetation in this area. We strive to educate all who join us on the bay, to help spread an understanding of sustainability and eco-friendly tourism and actions.

Community Efforts in Jervis Bay

It’s not just up to us. It is in the hands of all community members and even Jervis Bay visitors to make sure our beautiful area is preserved for future generations. We can all make a difference by disposing of waste in appropriate ways, and taking other actions to minimise our impact on our local environment.

But there are further steps we can take. In the region there are many volunteer organisations which have an environmental focus and work to keep Jervis Bay healthy and clean. The local council and landcare groups work together to monitor the beaches and eliminate a harmful plant called sea spurge. This plant grows rapidly and can significantly damage the structure of the beach as well as pose a threat to numerous shorebirds.
Volunteering and taking community action is one way area residents can easily help with environmental preservation. Many area groups also participate yearly in Clean Up Australia Day, which takes place in 2015 on Sunday March 1st. Connect with one of these organisations and you can be a part of that positive action, helping keep Jervis Bay beautiful for years to come.
